Courts and Alleyways

The story of Lymington Courts and Alleyways
Walk Courts and Alleyways Courts and Alleyways walk

Our courts and alleyways walk starts in the High Street at the War Memorial outside St. Thomas’s Church and explores the nooks and crannies of the High Street.

We call this one the "no mod-con" walk because its theme is what it was actually like to live in Lymington at various times – when there was no sanitation, street lighting, and the butchers used to slaughter their animals in the street! In Victorian times the inhabitants were given the opportunity to install proper sanitation and clean piped water – but resisted change and organised protest meetings!

This walk starts in the High Street at the War Memorial outside St. Thomas's Church and ends in the High Street.
